So, after many days of messing around with re-recording my screencast, I finally published the final version of my “PiTiVi 0.13.1 Release Demo” (also on Youtube), complete with clean sound recording and music.

Yesterday, Edward added a nice new feature PiTiVi: it now doesn’t die when you open a project file with missing media, and allows you to locate the new location of the files if they have moved. It looks like this:

J’étais depuis un moment en quête d’un moyen d’enregistrer ma voix de manière très claire et fidèle, avec le moins de bruit possible, dans l’optique de faire des vidéotutoriels pour PiTiVi (un peu dans le style de ceux d’Apple). En effet, je crois qu’une interface bien conçue peut ne pas être immédiatement familière aux nouveaux venus, mais qu’une bonne documentation initiale sous forme de screencasts permet de combler toutes les failles et de rendre les utilisateurs efficaces et enthousiastes en moins de deux.

I ordered a dirt-cheap (3$) USB sound card from eBay in the vague hope that it would work with Linux. It doesn’t. Not a big loss, I guess.

HOME

On vient de me montrer une conférence de presse d’un film écologique français, «HOME» (hum. logique…). Réalisé par Luc Besson et Yann Arthus-Bertrand, il sera diffusé en cinéma un peu partout, disponible en DVD à prix raisonnable, et surtout… gratuitement sur Youtube dès le 5 juin. Si la bande annonce est une bonne indication, alors ça devrait décidément être quelque chose d’intéressant à voir dans les semaines à venir.

Sometimes I think developers should use netbooks as their testing machines. Then they would be hit by performance bottlenecks in much more obvious ways :)
